Logos
Once upon a time, say, 1994, WN Studios (then known as Willie Nillie Productions), received a logo after 3 years of just having the cartoon character Willie Nillie as a symbol. WN Studios was not legitimate as far as being a business or anything (still isn't!), so it didn't really matter. People found it hard to read the logo, reading it as "NW Productions", because of how the "N" overlapped the "W", even though it overlapped on the right and not the left. Sigh...some people....
In 1997, a new logo was introduced. The "N" was completely placed behind the "W" to prevent people from getting confused. Willie Nillie was also added, as he was the centre of Willie Nillie Studios (as it was now known). Willie, created as a black-and-white character back in 1991, is still black-and-white to this day.
After a few months of computer graphics education in college, and years of fascination with three-dimensional drawing and hand animation, the WN was three dinensionalized by hand, and then by Photoshop, in 1998.
A year later, the WN was removed and replaced by two "swish"-style shapes. The traditional blue and red was kept, and the same image of Willie Nillie was enlarged and made the centre of the logo.
2000 changed everything. The traditional blue and red was discarded, and replaced with the more sophisticated colours of grey and black. The text was done in Motorhead font, and Willie Nillie's distinguishing eye and part of his head was placed in the background. As an animation, the WN was scribbled in, which suited the roughness of the font.
Willie Nillie Studios became WN Studios in 2002, and once again got a new logo. Using a tutorial for Adobe Photoshop, the logo featured a flaring blue light which exposed the black text. This logo, however, proved hard to work with, as the effect only worked with a black background, and making the background transparent was near impossible. On top of that, a text-based logo is hard to work with.
Mid-2003, the text-based logo was scrapped in order to be able to dramatically change the look of the web site. Without the complex effect from the last logo, it is very versatile when it comes to colours and backgrounds.
The summer of 2004 brought about another change, though this one was not drastic like the previous changes were. The inner coloured circle was removed (this was a rotating segment of a circle travelling in the middle of the outer circle in animations), and the outer circle was made into two "stylized" halves. The entire cirlce rotates in animations, and the versitility of colours was retained. This is the current logo and is used at almost all times, though the previous logo is also used once in a while because of its simpler design.
The website in 2006 didn't really display any sort of logo. It wasn't until this current layout was put together that a new logo was created. This time around the hard edge and Motorhead Grotesk was dropped for something more welcoming.
