Legacy Web Sites
circa 2001
Way back when (2001), this site went under a different name. Web skills were still in it's infancy, so the design was quite forgettable. However, having the site name and logo ran up the side of the site, which was not seen very often at all, made it unique. The menu was also located up the side of the pages, which was also unique, but probably not a terribly user-friendly layout.
2002 (feb. 2002 - summer 2003)
The following year, the site's named changed to its current iteration. Gone was the online resume, personal page, and link to a Shockwave game that never got put online. New was the legalities page, Flash menu, a section on Willie Nillie, a Useful Links page and having all the portfolio material under one link ("The Gallery"). The change was a major facelift for the site, though the background colour remained black.
2003 Discarded Design
Before the site was finally changed again in 2003, it was supposed to get a multmedia makeover, with a plain HTML side and a full Flash side. The background colour was still black, but almost everything else was changed. The menu kept some of the same look, but came right out of the side of the page. At the bottom left was going to be a music player to play preloaded songs. The background was animated when the page loaded, and a link was added that was carried over to what would be the new site, but was never used.
2003 (summer 2003 - sep. 2004)
The black background was finally ditched when the new site was finally created. A combination of a ton of work and the desire for a significant change prompted the original design for 2003 to be discarded for the new site with it's new look and new logo. Anything that did not seem professional was removed (Willie Nillie), "Work in Progress" was renamed "In Studio", and a page was created about Ottawa, Ontario (where the website is). An okay design at the time, but not one I would ever do again.
2004 (sep. 2004 - dec. 2005)
Another huge change came in 2004. This time the site was contained in a window that popped-up from the index page. The limited space made everything somewhat crowded, and the design was a tad busy, though a few things about the site were nice. In the Gallery section, something new was introduced. To make up for the lack of new content, the image on the side was replaced with a preview of the image the user rolled over.
2005 (dec. 2005 - nov. 2006)
In 2005 the site went green...only in colour. The vision for the site was great, but it didn't turn out that way in the end. Again, new things were tried. There was an expanding drop down DHTML menu...that didn't work in Firefox. The best part was the index page, where a new random image would be displayed each time the page was revisited or refreshed. The look of the index page was inspired by the index page of Vertical Horizon's index page in 2005, which was appealing at the time.
2006 (nov. 2006 - jan. 2010)
A lot of work went into the 2006 redesign; everything was redone from the ground up. The site featured a Flash menu, a rotating image slideshow, galleries that featured rollover previews, among other things. While the site looked nice, it was not practical. Space was very limited; most of it was devoted to the layout. All the content was contained within an iframe in order to keep the image slideshow on the screen at all times.
2007 Discarded Layout
Before the current layout was designed, there were several other ideas. This one was going to use another Flash movie with animated buttons and animated logo. However, this idea was dropped since using another Flash menu wasn't ideal.
